Fariborz Pooya
The news of the terrorist attack on Ali Javadi—one of the prominent socialist voices opposing both the Islamic Republic and rise of far-right authoritarianism in Iran and abroad is deeply alarming. It not only raises serious concerns about his personal safety, but also points to a broader and troubling pattern that threatens critical opponents of authoritarianism, the apparent expansion of the Islamic Republic’s reach beyond its borders, with its networks and sympathisers operating abroad under a variety of disguises.
Such incidents underscore the growing risks faced by political dissidents in exile and highlight the urgent need for vigilance within the Iranian political community. When acts of intimidation or violence occur outside the country, they signal not just isolated aggression, but a deliberate attempt to silence opposition voices and extend repression beyond the borders.
This attack must be unequivocally and forcefully condemned. It is imperative that all opposition organisations, political groups, and advocates of democratic values speak out clearly against this cowardly act, as well as against any form of terrorist or coercive activity carried out beyond Iran’s borders. Silence or ambiguity in the face of such actions only enables their perseverance.
We express our solidarity with Ali Javadi during this difficult time and sincerely wish him a full and swift recovery, along with continued strength and safety.
